The highly anticipated music documentary promises to be a heartfelt journey into the world of music, healing, and resilience.

The film is scheduled for its international premiere on September 7 at the AMC Empire 25 in New York City’s Times Square, featuring the world-renowned musician and composer YOSHIKI leading a global concert featuring today’s top musical artists. The film features an impressive lineup of global performers, such as YOSHIKI’s fellow bandmates HYDE and SUGIZO from THE LAST ROCKSTARS, as well as renowned artists The Chainsmokers, St. Vincent, Sarah Brightman, Scorpions, Jane Zhang, Lindsey Stirling, and Nicole Scherzinger.

Connecting people through music

YOSHIKI undertook this ambitious project during a time when the music industry was grappling with the inability to connect with fans in person. With “YOSHIKI: UNDER THE SKY”, he has brought together an extraordinary assembly of musical talents for an emotionally charged journey. The film promises to take audiences on a roller coaster of emotions, from a heart-wrenching interaction with the husband of a terminally ill fan, to a joyous celebration of voices united across international borders.

Reflecting on the film, YOSHIKI shared the following.

When I first began working on this project, I didn’t know when we would all be able to gather in the same place and share the joy of music. Coming together with these great artists from around the world, we were able to create a theatrical experience that I’m very proud of. I’m so grateful for everyone who joined us on this journey.

The heart behind the film

YOSHIKI, renowned as a composer, drummer, pianist, and the leader of iconic rock bands X Japan and THE LAST ROCKSTARS, can now add “director” to his long list of achievements. His venture into film direction comes after the success of the critically acclaimed documentary “We Are X”, which explored the story of his band X Japan and garnered accolades at the SXSW and Sundance Film Festivals in 2016.

“YOSHIKI: Under The Sky” not only presents electrifying live performances but also delves into intimate interviews with YOSHIKI himself. Through these discussions, YOSHIKI shares his unwavering passion for music and his personal experiences of loss. The film underscores the profound healing impact of music and reflects YOSHIKI’s determination to never succumb to challenges.

YOSHIKI will appear at the New York event for a live audience Q&A, and will also appear in person at the London (September 11) and Los Angeles (September 14) premieres. HYDE will appear at the Tokyo (September 8) premiere.

As the world eagerly awaits the premiere of “YOSHIKI: Under The Sky”, this cinematic celebration of music’s ability to connect people promises to leave an indelible mark on the hearts of audiences, reinforcing the power of artistry, unity, and resilience in times of adversity.
