Top Gun 3 is officially moving forward with Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski set to return. They will also be joined by Maverick‘s Miles Teller and Glen Powell as well as producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison.

There’s also a story in place, and when previously talking about that, Bruckheimer said: “We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and he [Tom Cruise] said I really like that, so we’re developing it.”

The producer has now offered an update on the project, and while it’s in development, it’s nowhere near ready for production.

During an interview with GamesRadar, Bruckheimer was asked how the project is coming along and if he’s had any conversations with Cruise. He replied: “We had preliminary stuff. We’re not there yet. [There’s] ways to go.”

I have conflicted feelings over a third Top Gun movie. Top Gun: Maverick was so great and so strong that it’s going to be a hard movie to outdo.

I don’t mind that they are taking their time with this and not rushing out a sequel. The creative team knows that if they do this, they are going to have to knock it out of the park.
