The well-known archaeologist and adventurer known for his signature fedora hat is finally back in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. How does Indy fare in his latest adventure? What happens to Indiana Jones in the Dial of Destiny ending? Here’s the Indiana Jones 5 ending explained. Beware of spoilers.

How does Indiana Jones 5 end?

At the end of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Indiana Jones reconciles with his wife, Marion Ravenwood.

As mentioned in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indy (Harrison Ford) and Marion (Karen Allen) separated after a brief period of marriage. Dial of Destiny reveals they drifted apart after losing their son, Mutt Williams (played by Shia LaBeouf in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull). However, Indy’s near-death experience during his time travel brings them back together, and they have a heartfelt discussion about their pain before kissing in the kitchen. Marion is absent most of the time in Dial of Destiny, although she returns just in time to take care of Indy right before the end. Producers hinted at Allen’s return as Marion through several promotional materials.

As teased by its protagonists multiple times, Dial of Destiny might be Indy’s last adventure. Ford, who will soon turn 81, said goodbye to the character during the press conference following the Dial of Destiny premiere at Cannes earlier this year. Still, the movie does conclude with Indy reaching out to grab his fedora hanging from the clothesline. Indy’s fate now is upended by the box office result, as it’s hard to imagine Lucasfilm will shelf a successful franchise like Indiana Jones.

If Dial of Destiny is Indy’s last adventure, the beloved hero went on quite an adventure before hanging up his fedora. In addition to taking on some of his long-term foes, Indiana traveled in time thanks to the titular artifact to meet the renowned ancient mathematician and inventor Archimedes himself during the Siege of Syracuse.
