Randy Jackson opened up about his health in a book. He had type 2 diabetes and weighed 350 pounds. To help lose weight, he had surgery to shrink his stomach.

Randy Jackson revealed in his 2008 memoir Body with Soul that he had been diagnosed with Type II diabetes. He then revealed that he had a gastric bypass surgery which reduces the size of a stomach. The surgery caused his weight loss. At the time of his diagnosis, Jackson weighed 350 pounds.

In his memoir, Jackson revealed that his diagnosis and surgery, along with the doctor explaining his condition pushed him to take better care of his health. Jackson eventually started his own nutrition company called Unify Health Labs to help people with weight management, healthy digestion, and increased energy.

In a 2022 appearance on the Jennifer Hudson show, Jackson revealed that he had back problems and later opined the importance of gut health. He also urged audiences to talk to healthcare providers and behavioral therapists to help them get started on their own weight loss and maintenance journeys.

In another 2022 People interview, Jackson said that he maintains his weight through healthy eating, which includes eating five healthy meals a day comprised of fish, veggies, some rice and potato, and snacks on fruits, cheese, or protein bars and shakes.
