Star Trek: Picard Season 3 brought back the USS Enterprise-D in the ninth episode of the series, titled “Vox,” and damn… that was so cool! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little emotional watching the original crew of Star Trek: The Next Generation step on the bridge of the ship for the first time in years. The season of Picard has just been so freakin’ amazing! I don’t want it to end, but I know it will!
Having grown up watching The Next Generation, this season of Picard particularly has been very special for me, and seeing Picard (Patrick Stewart), William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton), Worf (Michael Dorn), Data (Brent Spiner), and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) back on the ship just made me so happy. The ship has been at the Fleet Museum, which houses all the important ships from Starfleet’s past, Geordi revealed that he’d rebuilt the USS Enterprise-D and that it’s ready to launch back into action!
Geordi revealed that Starfleet retrieved the Enterprise-D’s saucer section from Veridian III following the Prime Directive, to stop it from influencing worlds in the system. Geordi restored the rest of the Enterprise-D by using parts from other ships and he even restored the original voice of the Enterprise-D’s computer.
Wil Wheaton has not been a part of this series, but as a consolation prize, he has been able to host special event videos for the series titled The Ready Room. In this most recent episode “Celebrating Frontier Day”, Wheaton got to take a tour of the rebuilt Enterprise-D set to see it for himself with Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s legendary graphic designer Michael Okuda.
Check out the video below which also offers up a lot of insight and details on the ship’s design and more.
