Sony Classics has released the trailer for Jason Schwartzman’s upcoming film Between the Temples, which is an indie deadpan comedy about a cantor in a crisis of faith.
During this crisis, he finds his world turned upside down when his grade school music teacher (Carol Kane) re-enters his life as his new adult Bat Mitzvah student.
The film is described as “a rare, offbeat comedy buoyed by its cast’s lively yet heartfelt performances. Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane are a natural fit as our loving leads, while the rest of the film is peppered with a way-too-funny cast…”
The movie “delights in frenzied misadventure while being carefully driven by a warm heart and loving embrace of human connection.”
I had a chance to see this film while at Sundance, and while it was a good character study, the movie isn’t for everyone, but it might be worth a look.
Sony Pictures Classics will release Between the Temples in select US theaters starting on August 23rd, 2024
