Tom Hiddleston has had a long great run playing Marvel’s God of Mischief Loki since he was introduced in the 2011 Marvel film Thor. He was immediately a fan-favorite character, and it’s safe to say that we’ll see him again one day.

Hiddleston recently shared the inspiration behind his take on the character, and it’s an unexpected choice. When trying to figure out how he wanted to play Loki, he looked to Christopher Reeve’s Superman for guidance.

Hiddleston explained: “I remember thinking, ‘This is almost Shakespearean, this language. What’s the best example I can [look to] of an actor who managed to humanize and make real this elevated world of myth?”

When talking about why Reeves’ Superman inspired him, he said: “He’s masterful in that film. In a way, it’s a similar premise: He’s a god or he’s a being from a different realm, and it’s not naturalistic in the way that we might expect.

He continued: “He does it so truthfully, and it’s so clear and clean and open and honest. I thought, ‘If I can even approximate or get close to the kind of clarity that Christopher Reeve had in those films, I’ll be lucky.'”

I think that Hiddleston managed to do that. You can certainly see those elements in the way he plays Loki. Hiddleston is so good in this role and the character has had quite the epic journey in the MCU.

The last time we saw Loki was in Loki Season 2 which ended his redemption arc as he made the ultimate sacrifice to become the keeper of the timelines.

We have no idea when we’ll see Loki again, but Hiddleston believes that one day he will return.
