Sony Pictures is taking horror fans back to The Further with a fifth installment of James Wan’s Insidious franchise. The title of the film was just revealed to be Insidious: The Red Door and it will be released in theaters this summer on July 7, 2023.
Patrick Willson is returning to the franchise and will reprise his role as Josh Lambert, but he’s also directing the new film, which is pretty cool! This will be his big directorial debut. The movie also stars Ty Simpkins returning as Dalton Lambert, with Rose Byrne also reprising her role as Renai Lambert.
Insidious: The Red Door is set ten years after the last movie. In the story, “Josh Lambert (Wilson) heads east to drop his son Dalton (Simpkins) off at an idyllic, ivy-covered university. However, Dalton’s college dream becomes a nightmare when the repressed demons of his past suddenly return to haunt them both.”
The script for the film was written by Scott Teems (Halloween Kills) and it’s based on a story by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man).
Wilson previously talked about the film, saying: “I’m honored and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices. Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story. Into the further we go…”
I’m a fan of this horror franchise and I’m looking forward to seeing how this next chapter of the story plays out!
