During Warner Bros.’ presentation at Las Vegas CinemaCon (via Collider), it was confirmed that New Line Cinema‘s upcoming fourth installment to the blockbuster horror franchise The Conjuring has officially been titled The Conjuring: Last Rites.
The Conjuring: Last Rites will once again be written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who wrote the screenplay for the last two installments. As of now, the studio has not yet announced who will be directing the follow-up sequel to 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The film will also be produced by franchise creator James Wan and Peter Safran, with leading stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Further details about the plot and characters for The Conjuring: Last Rites are still being kept under wraps. However, Wan recently confirmed that the horror sequel might potentially wrap up Ed and Lorraine Warren’s story.
“Yeah, we are working on it right now. With the Conjuring films, we are very precious about [them],” Wan said to Collider. “And so we kind of want to just take our time to make sure we get it right and to make sure the emotion of the Warren stories that we want to tell, and moving into, and potentially wrapping up, we just want to make sure that it’s the right thing, the right story that we’re telling.”
