For those of you wondering if there’s been any movement on a second season of The Acolyte, series showrunner Lesley Headland has said she’s heard “nothing” from Lucasfilm or Disney.
She was asked about the future of the series during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, and while she has teased ideas for Season 2, she explains why she needs to take a break from Star Wars.
Headland explained: “You have to take a break, especially after something like this. I don’t even know how many years my brain has been going, ‘Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Acolyte, Acolyte, Acolyte’ – just constantly solving problems, constantly thinking about it.
“It is very weird to now be in a place where I don’t need to do that. I always say to budding writers, ‘The most important thing that you can do is sit around and do nothing. Because the second you start to manufacture a story, you’re going to get stressed out and the story can’t start that way.'”
She added: “My brain is still doing it. It’s almost like if you’re running, you can’t just stop, can’t shut off.”
So, technically, she could just jump right back into it if Lucasfilm gave her the go to start developing it. Meanwhile, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have been in the Star Wars zone ever since they launched The Mandalorian.
As you’ve seen, though, they’ve even struggled with aspects of Star Wars storytelling. But, it’s all part of the Disney machine to keep pumping out Star Wars content and in that process, the creative teams they bring in are going to win some and lose some.
It’s just the nature of the franchise beast.
