Lucasfilm has shared a new clip from its upcoming series Star Wars: The Acolyte, and this one puts the focus on Carrie-Anne Moss’ character Jedi Master Indara as she fights Amandla Steinberg’s Jedi-killing character Mae.
As you’ll see, Moss shows off her Jedi martial arts skills in the clip as she effortlessly evades Mae’s initial furious attacks. This is an exciting action sequence, and it’s really cool to see Moss in action again!
During a previous interview, Moss talked about joining the Star Wars franchise saying: “Leslye [Headland] pitched it to me. I had watched her show Russian Doll, knew her artistry, was blown away by her vision and her ability to execute.
“I was like, ‘I’m all-in. When do I start?’ I was absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to add Star Wars to my resume. My personal resume – I don’t even mean the paper one. Within my soul and my spirit, to get to play this Jedi Master and train for the fight was [an] amazing experience.
“I really awakened, actually, a part of me that forgot how much I love action. I love it. I personally love being challenged. It’s a physical challenge, but it’s a mental challenge too. It helps you get into that world of the Jedi Master, with the mind-training.”
The Acolyte is described as “a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.” The High Republic is set 100 years before the Skywalker Saga begins.
Steinberg plays a former Padawan and dangerous warrior who is hunting down and killing Jedi. In the story, “An investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Stenberg).
“As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….”
The Acolyte has been getting high praise from critics who have seen the first few episodes of the series, and it gives me hope that it will actually be good.
The series also stars Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, Margarita Levieva, Joonas Suotamo, and Amy Tsang.
The Acolyte will consist of eight episodes with Headland, Garcia Lopez, and Kogonada directing. It’s set to premiere on June 4, 2024, on Disney+.
