In the Heights and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts star Anthony Ramos has signed up for his next big film project with the upcoming film Twisters, which is the sequel to the classic 1996 box office hit Twister. He joins the previously cast Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where The Crawdads Sing) and Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick).

Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) is directing the film from a script written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant). Steven Spielberg is producing the film and is said to have loved the script for the movie, and his enthusiasm for it helped get the film fast-tracked into development.

According to sources, the hope is to get Helen Hunt back, and tell a story that focuses on the daughter that her character had with Bill Paxton’s character. She has caught the storm-chasing bug her parents had, and I assume that character will be played by Edgar-Jones.

The original movie follows a group of storm chasers who are trying to deploy a revolutionary new weather instrument that can track and predict tornadoes. Along the way, they encounter a series of dangerous and tornadoes, putting their lives in peril as they race to collect valuable data and save lives.

Twister is such a beloved classic, and one of the things that I remember being blown away by at the time was the innovative and groundbreaking use of special effects. At the time of its release, the film’s realistic depiction of tornadoes was considered state-of-the-art, and it set a new standard for visual effects in the industry. The stunning visuals and heart-pumping action sequences captivated audiences and created a thrilling cinematic experience.

The movie was also packed full of memorable characters, and Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton are both awesome in their respective roles as storm chasers, with their chemistry and banter providing the movie with its heart and humor. The supporting cast, including Cary Elwes, Jami Gertz, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, also deliver standout performances that bring depth and dimension to their characters.

I just hope this sequel has the same tone, style, and spirit as the original movie.
