Goodfellas star Ray Liotta‘s cause of death has been revealed as heart and respiratory issues nearly a year after the iconic star’s passing.
TMZ has stated that from documents the outlet was able to obtain and see, Liotta’s cause of death was considered “natural and nonviolent.” The documents reportedly cite respiratory insufficiency, pulmonary edema (which is better known as fluid in the lungs) and acute heart failure. Apparently the star also suffered from atherosclerosis — a condition of thickened arteries as a result of plaque building up in the inner lining. Liotta passed away in his sleep on May 26, 2022.
Prior to his breakout role as Henry Hill in Martin Scorsese’s Goodfellas, Liotta earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role as Ray Sinclair in 1986’s Something Wild and played Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1989’s Field of Dreams. Liotta also famously voiced the main character of the hit video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Tommy Vercetti.
At the time of his passing, the star was in the Dominican Republic filming the movie Dangerous Waters. Liotta was 67 years old at the time of his death last year. He was engaged to Jacy Nittolo and left behind one daughter, Karsen.
