Y’all. Perfume had just released “Nebula Romance” and already they are announcing the release of a new song.

Fushizen na Girl.

This new song will be a tie-in with Gundam Card Game. And whilst the title and release date of the song has yet to be announced, Perfume did talk a bit about the song — saying that it has a nostalgic vibe, that it feels like floating through space and that it has a story. In other news, water is wet and the song will be produced by Yasutaka Nakata.

One of the things about Nebula Romance that I wish was pushed more, is a story which actually coincides with the visual theming and branding of the albums. Despite everything we saw in the “Cosmic Treat” video and everything which was put in the inlay for Nebula Romance: Part 1 — none of that stuff was in any of the songs. So a song tie-in with Gundam presents an opportunity for Yasutaka ‘Yasutussy’ Nakata to actually write a song about some specific space shit, instead of themes and mentions of space feeling tacked on and sprinkled into a song. Although if Nakata is still writing and producing songs with no tie-ins in mind — which is how he’s been cranking out songs since “Polygon Wave” — then there may not be any lyrical or thematic connection to Gundam at all, other than the song sounding 80s and spacey.

The Gundam franchise has had some great theme songs and tie-ins over the years, so hopefully this new Perfume’s song will be one to add to the list.

It is a bit disheartening that Perfume has moved on from “Nebula Romance” already. It’s such a good song. But this seems to be the deal with Perfume these days — throwing out digital singles with tie-ins and then moving onto the next thing. It’s strange. Because if digital singles and tie-ins was always the strategy, then they may as well have just released singles as full blown promotional singles. “Human Factory -Denzo Ningen-” and “Nebula Romance” would have hit differently with music videos and a promotional push. I get it’d be difficult to pull off in the midst of a tour. But, still. It’s a shame these songs just get thrown out as digital singles with no real push, when they have a sound and vibe which feels like such a great combination of what Perfume have long been known for, but also something new and forward facing.

I’m fully expecting the choreography for this song to feature something from “Flash”.
