On a recent episode of Happy Sad Confused, The Last of Us series creator Craig Mazin revealed his involvement in Legendary’s highly-anticipated Dune: Part Two.

Mazin shared director Denis Villeneuve had requested him for the Dune: Part Two script, which Villeneuve initially co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. According to the Emmy-winning scribe, he will be credited as a “participating writer” in the Timothée Chalamet-led sequel.

“I’m out of the movie business, basically,” Mazin said. “I’ll work with certain directors when they call because I love them and because they’re so brilliant, so if, like, Denis Villeneuve calls, then absolutely. I’m there for, three-four weeks, a month, to work on what you’re working on.”

What to Expect in Dune: Part Two?

Dune: Part Two is once again being directed by Denis Villeneuve. The returning cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. Joining them is Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.

“This follow-up film will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” reads the synopsis. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Upon release, the first film garnered critical acclaim from fans and critics alike; it went on to rack up a whopping 10 Academy Award nominations.
