With Twisters being released in theaters this weekend, I thought it would be cool for you to take a look back at the making of the original 1996 film Twister.
Below you’ll find a behind-the-scenes making of video that’s narrated by the late Bill Paxton. The video also includes a featurette titled “Anatomy of a Twister” and a doc revisiting the film titled “Chasing The Storm: Twister Revisited.”
If you’ve never seen these before, they are worth watching and seeing how the original movie came together.
Twister follows Dr. Jo Harding, a dedicated and fearless storm chaser, and her estranged husband, Bill Harding, who is also a seasoned meteorologist.
The couple, on the brink of divorce, must join forces when an unprecedented series of powerful tornadoes threaten to wreak havoc across Oklahoma. Their mission is to deploy a revolutionary device called “Dorothy” that can gather vital data from the heart of a tornado, which could significantly improve the early warning system for severe weather events.
As they race against time and the elements, Jo and Bill’s passion for their work rekindles their relationship, even as they confront their personal demons and past traumas related to a tornado that devastated Jo’s family years earlier.
The movie was directed by Jan de Bont and it featured groundbreaking special effects for its time.
