The ’90s slasher franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer is being revived with a new movie that is set to be released next summer on July 18, 2025.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) is set to direct the movie for Sony Pictures with Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.) writing the screenplay.

The movie is described as a legacy sequel, and McKendrick previously talked about the project saying that it that will bring it up to date, but it will also deliver the proven formula of “hot people doing questionable things.”

McKendrick explained: “I mean, it’s hot people doing questionable things, right? At its core, I think it really reckons with some big ideas about hero and villain, right and wrong, how your skeletons come back to haunt you.

“And in the age of the internet and the age where fame is such a revered concept, the creation of TikTok and social media, who is Julie James in a world where there are no secrets anymore?”

She went on to add: “I obviously watched 8 million times while working on it, but it’s fun. It’s just a popcorn, wild ride. It’s campy at times, Jennifer Love Hewitt is so hot,Freddie Prinze Jr. is so hot. Sarah Michelle [Gellar], Ryan [Phillippe], they’re so gorgeous. It’s like beautiful people behaving badly. You just can’t get enough of it. There’s a lot of that in this film.”

We don’t know if anyone from the original cast will return for this next movie, but there have been reports that Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. could potentially be returning.

The original film came from director Jim Gillespie and writer Kevin Williamson (Scream) and is based on Lois Duncan’s novel. In the movie, “Four young friends bound by a tragic accident are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town.”

Are you excited that I Know What You Did Last Summer is making a come back!?
