Speaking with Deadline, HBO executive Francesca Orsi has opened up about the expanding Game of Thrones franchise, confirming that there are indeed other Game of Thrones spin-offs currently in development. However, she admitted that none of them are “real contenders for production greenlight” yet as potential projects are at the state where they are still “new and nascent” and “don’t even have many scripts on them.”

One of the unannounced projects might be prequel about Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest which is set 300 years before the events of the main series. It would follow Aegon and his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys along with their dragons as they conquer six of Westeros’ seven kingdoms, leading Aegon I to become the land’s first king.

HBO’s Upcoming Game of Thrones Projects

After Game of Thrones ended its eighth-season run in 2019, HBO granted a series order to the series adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel titled House of the Dragon, which is currently filming its second season. The series currently stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, and more.

Besides the upcoming House of the Dragon Season 2, the network has also recently ordered A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novella. However, due to the ongoing WGA strike, preproduction on the series has been temporarily shut down until the strike reaches a fair conclusion.

Last year, it has also been revealed that Kit Harington and Martin are developing a Jon Snow-centered sequel series, with the Emmy nominee reprising his fan-favorite GOT role. Fans have last seen Jon Snow in the GOT series finale, where he was sent back to the Night’s Watch as punishment for killing Daenerys Targaryen. However, it has not yet received an official series order from HBO.
