Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars project has been in development for a long time. It was originally set up as a series for Disney+, then later was going to be reworked as a movie.
We are now hearing that Marvel is seriously considering scrapping the project. This news comes from insider scooper @MyTimeToShineH.
Yassir Lester is writing the script for the film, which will see Cheadle return to the role of James “Rhodey” Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine.
It was revealed in the Secret Invasion series that Rhodey had been held captive by the Skrulls since Captain America: Civil War. Dominique Thorne is also expected to return as Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart.
Cheadle will also be joined by Walton Goggins, who is returning to reprise his role as Sonny Burch from Ant-Man and the Wasp. There have also been rumors that Sam Rockwell was in talks to return.
I hope they don’t cancel this movie because I think there’s a really cool and interesting political thriller-type story to tell with it. This is just a rumor for now, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Cheadle previously teased how his character will be explored in the movie, explaining that for the first time, we’ll get to see what makes Rhodey tick.
He said: “The fun part about it is that we’re going to continue to explore Rhodey and — in some ways for the first time — get to see what makes him tick. We understand his physical challenges, but we haven’t really yet dug into a lot of his emotional and psychological [challenges].”
Is Armor Wars a movie you;d like to see Marvel move forward with? Or are you ok with them passing on it if that’s what they decide to do?
