Mahershala Ali (Greenbook, Moonlight) is in talks to join Universal Pictures’ next installment in the Jurassic World franchise, which is coming from Rogue One director Gareth Edwards.
Ali joins a growing ensemble cast which also includes Scarlett Johansson, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (Lincoln Lawyer), Jonathan Bailey (Wicked), and Rupert Friend (Asteroid City).
There’s no information regarding the film’s story or the characters that the actors will be playing, but the film will be set in a modern world where dinosaurs walk the Earth and the story is sure to involve people trying to survive.
Edwards will direct from a script written by original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp, with Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Patrick Crowley producing.
Ali is best known for his Oscar-winning performances in Green Book and Moonlight, and he is coming off the Sam Esmail thriller Leave the World Behind. Next he is also set to play Blade in Marvel’s upcoming film project.
