Amazon has announced that Maggie Q (Designated Survivor and Nikita) is set to star in the upcoming Bosch spinoff series that revolves around a character named Renée Ballard. Q will take on the role of Ballard, who has yet to be introduced.
Renée Ballard is set to make her debut in the Bosch: Legacy Season 3 finale, and we have a first look at the actress in the role alongside franchise star Titus Welliver.
It was also announced that Jet Wilkinson will direct the first two episodes of the Untitled Renee Ballard series for Prime Video. Wilkinson also will direct the Season 3 finale of Bosch: Legacy, which is a crossover which serves as the introduction of Maggie Q as Renée Ballard.
The Untitled Renée Ballard series follows “Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q), who is tasked with running the LAPD’s new cold case division—a poorly funded, all-volunteer unit with the largest case load in the city.
“Ballard approaches these frozen-in-time cases with empathy and determination. When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”
This Renée Ballard character is said to be based on Det. Mitzi Roberts from the LAPD. This is one of two spinoff shows currently in development that is inspired by the novels written by Michael Connelly.
The other series is the Untitled J. Edgar project, which follows Harry Bosch’s former partner, Detective Jerry Edgar, who is tapped for an undercover FBI mission in Little Haiti, Miami.
Bosch: Legacy Season 3 is based on Connelly’s best-selling novels Desert Star and The Black Ice. “The murder investigation of Kurt Dockweiler brings dangerous secrets to light and threatens to ruin the lives of our three principal characters.
“The disappearance of a family haunts Harry Bosch and forces him to confront the limits of justice. In a hotly contested race, Honey ‘Money’ Chandler is poised to become the next District Attorney of Los Angeles. And Maddie Bosch gets entangled in a series of violent follow-home robberies.”
I’m a big fan of the Bosch franchise, and I’m excited that the series franchise is expanding. I hope this spinoff show ends up being just as good as what’s come before.
