In a recent interview with Collider, Madame Web producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura opened up about Sony Pictures’ upcoming Spider-Man spin-off. The producer described it as “a different kind of movie in that universe.”

Originally scheduled for a 2023 release, the highly-anticipated film will arrive in theaters next year on February 16, 2024.

Di Bonaventura teased that the live-action Madame Web movie won’t be an average Marvel movie, as “it’s not an action picture” but rather “more of a thriller.” Why? The titular character’s tricky skill set “is not conducive to an action piece.”

Despite this, the blockbuster producer promised the Dakota Johnson-led film will still “be familiar to the audience in terms of what universe it’s playing in.”

Who’s the Cast of Madame Web?

Sony’s Madame Web is being led by Dakota Johnson as the titular Spider-Man character. Joining Johnson are Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), Celeste O’Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight), and Emma Roberts (American Horror Story), along with Golden Globe nominee Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps (The Upshaws), and Adam Scott (Severance).

Madame Web is being directed by S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) from a screenplay written by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Further details about the plot are still under wraps, but the film is rumored to be set before the birth of Peter Parker.
