Netflix has announced the first set of cast members who will be joining Oscar winner Robert De Niro in the forthcoming limited drama Zero Day. Lizzy Caplan (Fatal Attraction), Jesse Plemons (Power of The Dog), Joan Allen (The Bourne Ultimatum) and Connie Britton (The White Lotus) have signed on for the respective roles of Alexandra Mullen, Roger Carlson, Sheila Mullen, and Valerie Whitesell.
Their official character descriptions are listed below:
- Caplan’s Alexandra Mullen — A young Congresswoman who has sought to distance herself from her father’s political legacy.
- Plemons’s Roger Carlson — Former Mullen “body man” seeking a return to the national stage alongside Mullen.
- Allen’s Sheila Mullen — Former First Lady and nominee to the federal bench whose professional ambitions take a backseat to her husband’s political career.
- Britton’s Valerie Whitesell — A savvy, intelligent political operative who was Mullen’s former Chief of Staff.
- De Niro’s George Mullen — A massively popular, but complicated, former American President who is pulled from retirement to head a commission tasked with investigating a devastating global cyber-attack.
Zero Day is a conspiracy thriller created and executive produced by Noah Oppenheim, Eric Newman, and Michael S. Schmidt. In addition to starring, De Niro is also executive producing along with Jonathan Glickman and Lesli Linka Glatter, who will be directing all six episodes.
“The series asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining,” reads the synopsis.
