「この笑わない少女に微笑みを!」 (Kono Warawanai Shoujo ni Hohoemi o!)
“A Smile for This Dour Girl!”

Oh I love it when shows hit the ground running, especially when such a show is Konosuba. Nary two weeks in and everyone I love and adore about this series is already in full force, from the slapstick comedy to the crazy interactions and the promise of even more where it came from. Sure, remains to be seen if it can keep up, but should this season never let off the gas, let’s just say the ride will prove the price of admission.

Much as teased at the end of last week, the first big part of this season will be Kazuma learning all about the trials, tribulations, and, erm, interesting quirks of royalty. Princess Iris, probably to the surprise of none, is not your everyday anime royal: she’s an inquisitive kid, is thoroughly bashful, and while prone to awkwardness requiring third party interpretation, not immune to spontaneously speaking out when interested enough. It’s honestly a fairly accurate representation of a sheltered girl – which naturally leads to the comedy coming from the OG gang themselves. Besides the hilarity which is Darkness whiplashing between masochistic glee and proper noble “oh hell please stop before we all die”, there’s Kazuma digging himself his usual hole only to somehow come out of it in one piece before falling back into the clutches of NEET-ery. Tack on Megumin being, well, Megumin and Aqua showing why she should never be let out the house (oh god how I laughed at her drinking herself into a stupor) and you’ve got yourself a picture-perfect episode. And hell, even found some time to slot in a bit of Wiz and Vanir as well!

That introductory scene with Iris however is only half the battle; next comes seeing how Kazuma handles all facets of royalty up close and personal. This little switcheroo will make for some fun times ahead, because not only does it now see Kazuma split off the from the pack and left to fend for himself, but because of the distances involved it means there’s quite a bit of time before the gang can run over to collect him (just imagine Darkness screaming in fear. Permanently). Considering the personality of Iris and what her retainers are like you can guess full well how the upcoming few weeks will play out, especially once the details of Kazuma’s adventuring come out.

Rest assured there’s a lot of pain, suffering, and absolute hilarity quickly coming down the pipeline for this isekai gang, and I for one cannot wait to see it all play out.
