「この明るい未来に祝杯を!」 (Kono Akarui Mirai ni Shukukai wo!)
“God’s Blessings on This Bright Future!”

For all the sadness of being two weeks behind Konosuba (got to love them Crunchyroll leaks) there’s still plenty of happiness knowing that yes, indeed, this raging maelstrom of isekai hilarity is back on the TV screen for another go – and if first episodes are anything to go by, it’ll be like it never left.

Given the ubiquity of Konosuba within (and without) isekai circles there’s little need for any serious introduction as right away we get into what makes this series so much fun: the characters. From Kazuma wildly flipping between fantasy fuelled dreams of glory to total NEET depression, Aqua proving why “stupid goddess” isn’t just some pithy catchphrase, or the usual trials and tribulations of one explosion a day frugal frame loli developing archwizard in Megumin, we truly got it all and then some across this episode. Hell even some old-time favourites in Chris and Luna managed to sneak (or steal) some airtime, because nothing says a party like bringing the crowd. The whole crowd both living and, well, not so living.

As for the story of this new season, that will start getting fleshed out over the next couple of weeks. Outside of quick and dirty – and hilarious – monster of the week showcasing how Kazuma is often a case of tragic comedy taken to its purest conclusion (woe be that monster girl who saved one unsuspecting monastery), this week was all about reinforcing how Kazuma and friends have actually done a good deed by previously defeating one of the Demon King’s top generals and are technically due for a reward from the Crown. The nature of the reward of course is wholly unknown, but it does require actually meeting with them, and that obviously comes with the knowledge that you have to stick one deranged and gender equal shut-in within the vicinity of royalty – and per Darkness’ excellent reaction there’s no way it doesn’t end badly. You know Kazuma will screw it up, you know Aqua and Megumin will exacerbate the outcome, and oh yes, you definitely know Darkness will equal parts hate and love the abuse to follow. Oh how I cannot wait.

If in need of a spring laugh or two make sure to keep this season handy boys and girls, it’s going to be a riot.
