Kite Man: Hell Yeah! executive producer Dean Lorey has compared the upcoming Harley Quinn spin-off to an iconic classic sitcom. The series is scheduled to make its debut on July 18, exclusively on Max.
What did the Kite Man executive producer say about the Harley Quinn spin-off?
During a recent interview, Lorey confirmed that one of their concepts for Kite Man: Hell Yeah! was inspired by the Ted Danson-led sitcom Cheers, which lasted on-air for eleven seasons from 1982-1993.
“What we really wanted to do was Cheers with villains,” he said (via SFX Magazine). “That was the concept because it was something a little different from Harley while still being in the same universe. So, we find him wanting to buy and run a bar. It just creates a safe space for villains because no one wants them around. That’s where we meet him.”
Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is executive produced by Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Sam Register, Dean Lorey, and Kaley Cuoco, with Lorey serving as the showrunner. The voice cast includes Matt Oberg as Kite Man, Stephanie Hsu as Golden Glider, Cuoco as Harley Quinn, Keith David as Darkseid, Natasia Demetriou as Malice, Jonathan Banks as Noonan, Judith Light as Helen Villigan, Janelle James as Queen of Fables, and more. It is a production by Delicious Non-Sequitur and Yes, Norman Productions in association with Warner Bros. Animation.
“Kite Man and Golden Glider take their relationship to the next level by opening a bar in the shadow of Lex Luthor’s Legion of Doom,” reads the logline. “Nobody said serving cold ones to the most dangerous rogues outside of Arkham Asylum would be easy, but sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and how to hide a body.”
