While a lot of fans hoped that we would see Kevin Costner return for the final episodes of Yellowstone, after everything that’s gone down, we knew it was a long shot that it would happen.

Costner kept saying that he would love to return to the series, but today he confirmed in a video on social media that hew will not be returning to close out the neo-western series.

The actor and director shared in the video: “Hi, everyone. I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon, and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love and I know you love.

“I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5, or into the future. It was something that really changed me. I loved it and I know you loved it.

“And I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I love the relationship that we’ve been able to develop, and I’ll see you at the movies.”

It’s a shame that Costner, Taylor Sheridan, and the rest of the producers of Yellowstone couldn’t figure this out. Yellowstone will not be the same without Costner’s involvement and I don’t see how they will be able to close out the series properly without the actor that tied the whole show together.

Series actor Ian Bohen previously said that the end of the show will deliver the “best finale in history.”

Bohen also said: “The fans are going to get the [best] conclusion that could possibly be written. Everything will land in a way that is perfectly set. A lot of shows just kind of finish… and they don’t satisfy you.”

“This will be completed in a way that it will make sense.” He added, “I don’t know that any show has finished this strongly ever. We’re expecting to have the best series finale in history. Overconfident maybe, but I think that’s what it’s going to be. We thank everyone for their patience… It’ll be worth the wait, I promise.”

I’m not sure how that would be possible without Costner, but maybe the show will surprise me! They will dive into John Dutton’s story, though, as Josh Lucas will return to play the younger version of the character.
