Marvel movie fans sure do enjoy the post-credits scenes at the end of the movie. We all sit there while the credits roll waiting to see what the final clip will tease for the future of the franchise. Some people in the theater do get up and leave, though, which is funny because the rest of us are sitting there saying to ourselves, “Where are you going!? Have you never been to a Mar el movie before? It’s not over!”
I’ll never forget the first post-credits scene at the end of Iron Man when Nick Fury shows up at Tony Stark’s house to introduce him to the Avengers initiative. That was such a cool scene and the hype and the excitement in the theater exploded!
Well, during a recent interview, Marvel head Kevin Feige and director Jon Favreau talked about how these post-credit scenes came to be, and the suggestion that Edgar Wright made that has stuck since. Favreau said:
“You have two movie audiences. You got the casual movie audience that just wants to come and have a good time. You still have to make it fun for them or somebody new, next generation. I think you have the people who know it better than you do. And how do you make it work for both? And that’s a very tricky (thing).”
When talking about the Nick Fury scene, Feige added: “I would say that’s one of the reasons we put the Nick Fury tag at the end. So it would not be intrusive, or disruptive for somebody who is like ‘Why Sam Jackson here? Why is Sam Jackson in his living room?’ But if you’ve waited for those credits (you’re probably ready).”
It’s at this point that the Iron Man director revealed Wright’s suggestion saying:
“As Edgar Wright suggested, all the way to the end of the credits. Remember what we showed it to him at Skywalker? It was, (originally) it was just after the first few credits. He’s like ‘nah you gotta put it all the way.'”
Now they do two end credits scenes, one in the middle of the credits and one at the very end. What is one of your favorite Marvel post-credits scenes?
