Iconic manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is getting its very first musical adaptation, which will star voice acting legend Mamoru Miyano as Dio!
Set to premiere in February 2024 at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo, the musical will adapt the long-running manga’s first arc, Phantom Blood.
In addition to being a prolific voice actor with leading roles in anime series like Death Note, Ouran High School Host Club, and Steins;Gate, Miyano is also an experienced singer and stage actor, having performed in West Side Story, Waitress, and the musical adaptations of The Prince of Tennis.
Yuya Matsushita and Shotaro Arisawa will share the spotlight with Miyano as Jonathan Joestar, the protagonist of Phantom Blood.
Other newly confirmed cast members include Yoshihisa Higashiyama and Yusuke Hirose as Will A. Zeppeli, Miisha Shimizu as Erina Pendleton, Tetsuya Bessho as George Joestar I, Young Dais as Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Kong Kuwata as Dario Brando, Jumpei Shimada as Wang Chan, and Yamato Kochi as Jack the Ripper.
An ongoing manga series by Hirohiko Araki, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure follows members of the Joestar family through successive generations in a world where one’s spiritual energy can be manifested as a “Stand.”
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood’s musical adaptation will run in Tokyo from February 6 to 28. It will also be performed in Hokkaido from March 26 to 30 and Hyogo from April 9 to 14, 2024.
