James McAvoy is set to star in a new Blumhouse film project titled Speak No Evil, which is a remake of a nightmarish Danish horror thriller. James Watkins (The Woman in Black) will direct the film from a script that he wrote.
In the original 2022 movie, “On a vacation in Toscana, a Danish family instantly becomes friends with a Dutch family. Months later, the Danish couple receives an unexpected invitation. It doesn’t take long before the joy of reunion is replaced with misunderstandings.” What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend slowly starts unraveling as the Danes try to stay polite in the face of unpleasantness. The movie is actually pretty traumatizing and disturbing film.
I imagine that the remake will tell the same story, but most likely in an American setting. This should be a great project for McAvoy, who’s been keeping busy. He recently starred in the third and final season of the HBO series His Dark Materials. He also appeared in a remake of the French thriller My Son, alongside Claire Foy, in addition to starring opposite Sharon Horgan in BBC Two’s Together. McAvoy also plays Dream in Audible Original’s The Sandman podcast series.
Universal Pictures will release the movie on August 9th, 2024.
