James Gunn has shared the first story details for DC Studios’ upcoming animated series Creature Commandos, and what I wasn’t expecting is that it is a direct continuation of Peacemaker.

Gunn talked about the series during the Creature Commandos’ Annecy Animation Festival panel via a video message from the set of Superman, and he revealed how Peacemaker Season 1 and Creature Commandos are connected.

Gunn shared: “The new series picks up directly after our Peacemaker season one finale, which leaves Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning that she’s no longer able to get away with putting human lives on the line to carry out her clandestine morally questionable missions. Instead, she recruits a ragtag band of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.”

The filmmaker went on to say that the Creature Commandos roster is made up of “actual literal monsters, and I can’t wait for you to meet them. Creating this series has been one of the absolute joys of my life.”

The team consists of a human, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster, and a gorgon. Gunn previously said that he believes that this series is “Some of the Best Stuff He’s Ever Written.”

It was previously explained that the story for the project is so big that the only way it could be told is through animation because it would be way too expensive to pull off for live-action.

Many of these characters, “will also play the roles in live-action later on in the DCU,” and it was recently confirmed that some of these characters will appear in Superman

The voice cast includes David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn as Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.

Creature Commandos will premiere on Max in December 2024.
