Amazon MGM Studios is coming forward with the development of a sequel to director Doug Liman’s Road House, and Jake Gyllenhaal is reprising his role as Dalton.
Amazon MGM Studio chief Jennifer Salke shared the news: “As we saw this spring the world went crazy for a little movie called Road House.”
She added: “Nearly 8 million viewers globally have watched Road House. We like to watch this these results like a baby.”
I thought the movie was silly action-packed fun. It wasn’t a great movie, but it was enjoyable. A lot of people obviously had fun watching it, and Amazon MGM Studios wants to keep the franchise going.
The movie was a huge hit for the streamer and it “has attracted nearly 80 million worldwide viewers to-date. The film premiered on Prime Video March 21 and attracted a record-breaking over 50 million worldwide viewers over its first two weekends.”
The movie became Amazon MGM Studios’ “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.”
Road House was written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. Joel Silver produced the film, and it also stars Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Joaquim de Almeida, Conor McGregor and Lukas Gage.
The movie is described as an “adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic,” and the story follows ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal), who “takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.”
