Box office projections for Indiana Jones 5 are lower than 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the fifth movie in the action-adventure franchise, is projected to earn $60 million in its domestic opening. This is down from the $100 million opening 3-day weekend of Crystal Skull.
The new film, directed by James Mangold (Logan, Ford v Ferrari), is set to be the franchise finale. It’s tracked stronger with older male audiences than younger ones, leading some to compare the Indiana Jones 5 box office projections to No Time to Die. That film was Daniel Craig’s swan song as James Bond and earned $55.2 million in its opening weekend — primarily from the same demographic.
Disney may have trouble getting the box office numbers they need. Younger audiences will likely gravitate towards superhero movies like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Flash this month. Worse, Dial of Destiny sits a 50% “Rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes after its Cannes debut; this marks the weakest critical reception from the series yet.
When is the Indiana Jones 5 release date?
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will release on June 30, 2023. The film stars Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Olivier Richters, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.
“Daredevil archaeologist Indiana Jones races against time to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history,” reads the film’s synopsis. “Accompanied by his goddaughter, he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller, a former Nazi who works for NASA.”
