Last week, a fun new trailer was released for the upcoming DC animated series Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, which is a spinoff of Harley Quinn. This looks like a fun show, and producer Dean Lorey recently teased what we can expect from it.

Lorey said: “What we really wanted to do was Cheers with villains. That was the concept, because it was something a little different from Harley while still being in the same universe.

“So, we find him wanting to buy and run a bar. It just creates a safe space for villains, because no one wants them around. That’s where we meet him.”

I like that concept of Cheers with villains, and it could make for some very entertaining storytelling. But, he also explains that they will take certain aspects of the story seriously.

He continued: “We take their emotional lives really seriously. We take the relationships seriously. The thing that I most enjoy is taking these giant characters that are apex villains and getting into the minutiae of their daily lives.

“Like, what do they talk about at the Legion of Doom while they’re having coffee? Why is Bane upset because he can’t get an executive chair like everybody else? Whenever we take them outside of where you’ve typically seen them, that’s the most fun stuff for me.”

In the series, “Kite Man and Golden Glider take their relationship to the next level by opening a bar in the shadow of Lex Luthor’s Legion of Doom.

“Nobody said serving cold ones to the most dangerous rogues outside of Arkham Asylum would be easy, but sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and how to hide a body.”

Matt Oberg will reprise his role of Kite Man and he’ll be joined by Stephanie Hsu as Golden Glider, James Adomian as Bane, Natasia Demetriou as Malice, Janelle James as Queen of Fables, Jonathan Banks as Noonan, Keith David as Darkseid, Michael Imperioli as Joe/Moe Dubelz, Rory Scovel as Gus the Goon, the late Lance Reddick as Lex Luthor, and Judith Light as Helen Villigan.

Kite Man: Hell Yeah is executive produced by Harley Quinn co-creators Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Dean Lorey, and Kaley Cuoco. Sam Register also executive produces while Lorey serves as showrunner.

Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is set to be released on July 18th.
