While marketing Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron, the film was being promoted as Miyazaki’s final film, but that’s not the case. The legendary filmmaker is currently developing his next project, and it was recently teased by his son, Goro Miyazaki.

Goro didn’t offer any plot details, but he did offer a bit of insight on it, saying: “I’d tell him, ‘Make some for future projects. Only making them for your past stuff is boring.’”

He went on to explain while he was attending Oricon in Japan: “He’s making some now though. I don’t know if it’ll actually be for his next film, but it’s looking like an action-adventure-type movie, nostalgic and reminiscent of the old days.”

When previously talking about this project, Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki said: “He thinks about this new project every day, I can no longer stop him, I have given up on that. I’m no longer trying to dissuade him, even if it might be a bad film. In life, only work enchants him.”

We went on to say: “We spoke again earlier today. He started talking about this new project, so I’m not stopping him anymore. As long as he works I will not retire. He is 82 years old, I think he will continue until he is 90 years old and I’ll be going along with him for the ride.”

Well, I’m very excited and curious to find out what Miyazaki’s next story will be. He’s a master storyteller, and I love that he’s committed to making another movie!
