George Lucas created something special and epic with Star Wars. When Disney bought Lucasfilm, a lot of fans knew that Star Wars would never be what Lucasfilm originally intended it to be.

It was common sense to think that Disney didn’t really care about Lucas’ true vision for the franchise, as they were just going to do whatever they thought would make money.

They were going to hire writers and directors to just run with things and kind of do what they want without any real thought to the world that Lucas had built and the rules in it.

Lucas recently addressed all of this and confirmed that a lot of his ideas from the original Star Wars were lost after he sold Lucasfilm to Disney.

The filmmaker said: “I was the one who really knew what Star Wars was…who actually knew this world, because there’s a lot to it.”

He went on to say: “The Force, for example, nobody understood the Force. When they started other ones after I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in [the original] sort of got lost. But that’s the way it is. You give it up, you give it up.”

It’s a shame that some of those original ideas have been lost in the Star Wars projects that were made under Disney’s ownership, but it was expected! J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson certainly didn’t do the Star Wars franchise any favors.

Lucas sold Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4.05 billion. Since then Disney produced Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Disney also produced several live-action Star Wars TV shows with The Mandalorian, followed by The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka. The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew are set to hit Disney+ in 2024.

With Dave Filoni leading the creative charge at Lucasfilm now, hopefully Star Wars will get back in track and get closer to Lucas’ original vision and ideas.
