We’ve got an interesting short documentary to for you check out today called The True Story of the Turkish Avengers, which dives into the history of the cult classic Turkish film, 3 Dev Adam. The 1973 movie was the very first superhero movie to have multiple superhero films in what we now know as a crossover.

This mini-documentary comes from film historian Ed Glaser, as part of his “Deja View” series, and it focuses on 3 Dev Adam, also known as “3 Giant Men” or “Captain America & Santo vs. Spider-Man.” As Glaser explains in his video, movies starring costumed heroes were big in Turkey back in the 1960s and 70s, which was helped by lax copyright protections for foreign works back then. In an effort to get in on that, director T. Fikret Uçak decided to bring multiple heroes together in one movie for audiences to see. Captain America is played by Aytekin Akkaya, Spider-Man is played by Tevfik Şen, and El Santo is Turkish movie star Yavuz Selekman, a real-life masked luchador named Rodolfo Guzmán Huerta.

This is a fun and interesting little watch. Check out the doc below, and enjoy.
