Peacock subscribers woke up recently only to find out the Harry Potter movies are no longer available to watch. They have seemingly been removed and are now gone. Why have the Harry Potter movies disapparated from Peacock? And where has the fan-favorite series apparated? Here’s what you need to know about the missing HP films.
Did Peacock remove the Harry Potter movies?
Yes, Peacock removed the Harry Potter movie series starting May 8, 2023.
At the moment, there is no news on when the Harry Potter movie series will return to Peacock. However, Peacock subscribers shouldn’t despair as the Potter films will return to the NBCUniversal-owned streamer sooner or later.
In 2016, WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal reached an agreement for TV and some streaming rights to the Potter films until 2025. Peacock usually has a six-month window with video-on-demand rights to the series, but that might vary. The last time the movies headed to Peacock was in September 2022.
Where can you watch the Harry Potter movies now?
Currently, fans can only watch the Harry Potter movies on HBO Max.
It’s easy to speculate why the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned streamer wanted the streaming exclusive for the popular series for the time being. In a matter of days, HBO Max will be rebranded into Max, with the “new” streaming service already being promoted as the sole destination for the Wizarding World, which means that, in addition to the Harry Potter movies, fans can also watch the Fantastic Beasts installments, the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary special, and more, on the freshly-rebranded streamer. Max has also announced a television series based on the books penned by J.K. Rowling coming in the next couple of years.
The first Harry Potter movie was released in 2001 and was an instant hit that spawned seven sequels. The film series grossed over $7 billion worldwide and became a cultural touchstone in no time. It starred Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, with a talented ensemble cast.
