Yellowjackets Season 3 is currently in production and while we wait for the next season to be released, series star Christina Ricci is teasing what fans can expected from the next chapter of the story.

During a recent interview with THR, Ricci said fans should brace themselves as it will be more shocking and brutal than previous seasons. She described it as being “extremely Yellowjackets-y”.

Ricci said: “This season is going to be even more shocking and surprising than the previous seasons. It’s definitely going to be brutal. But they also put a lot of comedy into it. So, I think it’s just going to be… extremely Yellowjackets-y.”

Ricci also talked about shooting the new season of Yellowjackets and how it’s been bittersweet because Juliet Lewis isn’t involved. At the end of Season 2, Lewis’ character, Natalie, was accidentally killed by Ricci’s Misty.

She said: “We bonded and spent so much time together, and we just really loved each other. It was really sad for her character to be killed off. Even now, we’ve filmed a couple of episodes, and it’s sad without Juliet.”

“The showrunners of the series, Ashley Lyle, Bart Nickerson, and Jonathan Lisco, previously shared an update on the show, saying: “Everybody came back so incredibly enthusiastic, raring to go, and creatively invigorated.”

Yellowjackets director and producer Karyn Kusama previously teased what’s coming, saying: “I’ve been so excited by this. The concept of that immediate aftermath of re-entry into the world, to me, there’s a whole season worth of material there.

“And the fact that this is such a long game that each of these characters is facing, in terms of reorienting themselves to whatever normalcy is supposed to be. I’m sure we’re going to learn that their normal is a lot different than our normal… There’s a lot that needs to be figured out between Season 2 and Season 3.”

Lyle previously revealed that they have a five-season plan and they are on track to deliver the full story they wanted to tell. When talking about the full plan that they initially pitched, they explained why they feel five seasons is the right stopping point.

Lyle shared: “The original plan was about five seasons, and we feel like we’re still on track for that. There’s always room for things. We don’t really see this as being more than a five-season show.

“I think that there are shows that can go forever, but I think that when you’re telling such a deeply serialized story and it’s about these characters’ lives, you want to reach a satisfying conclusion and not just drag things out forever.

“This isn’t really one of those setup shows where it can go anywhere. So far, we’ve been really on track. Season 2 is largely what we always planned, but you do make a lot of discoveries along the way and so it’s always a little bit surprising.”

Yellowjackets is the saga of “a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness.

“The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.”

The ensemble cast of Yellowjackets includes Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Liv Hewson and Courtney Eaton in the 1996 era, while their counterparts in the 2021 era are played by Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell.
