When I saw the tweet announcing that Brandy was releasing a Christmas album, I choked. And I was overcome with a thought of ‘I had no idea how much I needed this’.
Brandy releasing a Christmas album is not something which has ever crossed my mind, which is so bizarre, given that I adore Brandy and am a fan of Christmas songs. And I am always throwing out names of acts who I want to release Christmas albums, yet I never once considered Brandy releasing one. Even though Brandy’s Full Moon cut “It’s Not Worth It” has been my festive Brandy song which I play every year leading into the holidays.
Needless to say I am stoked about this album.
Brandy’s tone and her vocal arrangements on a selection of original and traditional Christmas songs?
YES BITCH.
- Feels Different
- Somebody’s Waiting
- Christmas Party for Two
- Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
- Santa Baby
- Christmas Gift (featuring Sy’rai)
- Shine Out Your Light
- The Christmas Song
- Someday at Christmas
- Jingle Bells
- Deck the Halls
Christmas with Brandy is an even split between covers and original songs, with the lead single “Christmas Party for Two” releasing on November 3 prior to the album. Brandy teased a preview of the song and it sounds real nice.
But the album cover though…

The announcement of the album came with a behind the scenes look at the album shoot, which featured some great shots.
And yet, the most boring one got chosen for the album cover. Gurl, why didn’t we get this?
Brandy – Christmas with Brandy | The cover we shoulda gotten |
It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the folk at Motown Records opted against this shot for the cover because it’s too ‘ghetto’ and might deter white people from buying it and maximising sales.
HENNYWAY.
Brandy also stars in a Netflix Christmas movie alongside Jason Biggs of American Pie fame and Heather Graham, who I haven’t seen act in anything since Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Best. Christmas. Ever! release a few days after Christmas with Brandy. So I expect that a song or two from the album will feature in the film (the trailer shows Brandy singing on a stage) and we may get to hear a song or two which aren’t on the album.
Not giving Brandy a dark-skinned husband and a dark-skinned child?
Gurl.
Brandy is back on her Moesha and Cinderella shit with the acting gigs and music releases running in parallel. It’s been really cool to see her move back into acting in roles where she gets to do a bit of music too, with her stints in Zoe Ever After, Star and Queen all having at least one song from Brandy.
Christmas with Brandy releases on November 10, 2023.
Best. Christmas. Ever! releases globally on Netflix on November 16, 2023.
