The highly-anticipated Barbie movie announced the soundtrack that will accompany the film. Dua Lipa headlines the Barbie soundtrack with her song “Dance The Night” releasing on Friday, May 26.
Per Rolling Stone, Barbie: The Album features music from Ava Max, Charli XCX, Dominic Fike, Fifty Fifty, Gayle, Haim, Ice Spice, Kali, Karol G, Khalid, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, and The Kid Laroi. Mark Ronson serves as the album’s executive producer. The album’s release coincides with the film’s July 21 release date.
The surprising name on the list is Gosling, who stars as Ken. Gosling famously provided his vocals for Academy Award winner La La Land, the romantic musical by Damien Chazelle. Gosling is also a member of the rock group Dead Man’s Bones.
Who is Involved in Barbie?
Margot Robbie stars as the titular Barbie, the iconic fashion doll from Mattel. “After being expelled from Barbieland for being a less-than-perfect doll, Barbie sets off to the real world to find true happiness,” the official synopsis reads. Gosling plays the Ken to Robbie’s Barbie.
Barbie will feature different iterations of Barbie and Ken. The actors playing another version of Barbie include Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, and Dua Lipa.
Besides Gosling, Simu Liu, Scott Evans, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, and John Cena will appear as alternate variations of Ken
Greta Gerwig directs Barbie on a screenplay she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach. Barbie is inspired by the doll and Mary Pipher’s 1994 non-fiction book Reviving Ophelia. Robbie, David Heyman, Robbie Brenner, and Tom Ackerley serve as producers. Barbie is a Warner Bros. Pictures production.
