Noah Hawley’s Alien series is a project that a lot of fans are curious about. The creator has teases the show’s story several times, but until we watch the show play out, we really don’t know what to expect.
One thing that we do know is that it will be different from any of the Alien projects that have been made in the past. It’s a wildly different take on the franchise, but according to actress Sandra Yi Sencindiver, fans of the franchise will appreciate this new experience.
During an interview with Variety, Sencindiver said: “I think that especially the fans who love [Ridley Scott’s Alien] and [James Cameron’s Aliens] will be very pleased with the universe and the world-building in this reimagining.
“A lot of brilliant people, a lot of very interesting character actors [who are] very dedicated and, of course, Noah Hawley is just a brilliant storyteller.”
She continued, “I can’t say anything more than that, other than it’s been very exciting and interesting to play this character … And I also think it’s a pleasure that nobody has played that character before.
“That’s also great for me, that I get to set the bar for what this character is. We’ll be pleased — the old fans of the original movies.”
The story is said to be set three decades before the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien and a few years before Prometheus. The series will find the characters “caught in a conflict with the beginning of artificial intelligence and the competition among developers and users.”
Hawley previously said of the story: “It’s set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone’s going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know which one it is.”
He continued: “In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence-but what if there are other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg enhancements or transhuman downloads? Which of those technologies is going to win?”
This will be the first Alien project set on Earth, and it will blend “both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it’s going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats.“
Hawley also talked about the project, saying: “It’s about how we’re trapped between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us.
“It’s set on Earth of the future. At this moment, I describe that as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone’s going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know which one it is.”
He went on to share: “I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What happens if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”
The show also stars Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther (The End of the F*cking World) as the male lead, a soldier named CJ, with Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror) as another main character named Boy Kavalier, a CEO. Additional cast members include Essie Davis (Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries) as Dame Silvia, Timothy Olyphant, and Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Slightly.
