Star Wars fans have wondered if an extended cut of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story existed. According to writer and Andor creator Tony Gilroy, the answer is no.

Will a Rogue One Extended Cut ever be released?

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy was probed on scenes teased in trailers that didn’t make the final cut. The director stated despite what some fans have theorized, the best version of the film is what made it onto the silver screen.

“Uh, no,” Gilroy said when asked if an extended cut of Rogue One might come out one day. “That was the absolute best possible version you could ever have. Oh my God. No. No. I’m not going to go into any more detail, but the more authority that you hear people talk about online about what happened on that movie, the less they know. That’s all that needs to be said. Maybe someday … but no. That’s the absolute best version of that movie that you could possibly imagine in the time that was given.”

Rumors over Rogue One’s production have floated around for years. Various bits and bobs like unused scenes, speculation over who filmed the Darth Vader scene, and more have kept Star Wars fans buzzing.

In a 2016 interview, actor Ben Mendelsohn — who starred in the prequel as the villainous Orson Krennic — said that footage that wasn’t used could essentially tell a whole new story thanks to how they were filmed. “There were enormous differences within, I would’ve said, 20 or 30 of the scenes,” he said. “There would be enormously different renderings.”
