On April 21, electronic artist Moe Shop released their new song Kyary Pamyu Pamyu CANDY CANDY (Moe Shop Remix). This is a remix of the popular original by the pioneering Jpop sensation Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (KPP). The audio track is available now on streaming platforms, including Apple MusicSpotify, and YouTube.

French-born and Tokyo-based DJ Moe Shop whips out a tune that sounds clean, crisp, and full of fun. It decidedly steers the 2012 Jpop classic toward a disco vibe, with its insistent and prominent bass beat. Don’t expect to see any of the bizarrely kawaii (cute) live-action visuals typical of KPP. Still, the cover art by Yoshida Natsumi feels true to the spirit of the song, with bright pastels and an anime imagining of KPP enjoying… candy!

If I ran a candy shop in Tokyo, I’d loop this music video all day long as customers flocked into my store!

As fans of KPP know, she’s been a Jpop icon since she first amassed a following as a teenage fashion blogger. She later rose to global fame as a viral Jpop music video star, model, and actress, even starring in numerous Japanese TV commercials.

Why release this remix now? KPP, whom Moe Shop considers an inspiration, is once again touring overseas this year. Moe Shop will be joining KPP on the three-stop North American leg of the tour in May. KPP will then head for Europe, where she will perform in Spain, France, and the UK.

The “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu WORLD TOUR 2023 -POPPP-” begins May 15 in New York, and ends June 9 in Madrid.

Will this tour seal a longer-term partnership between these two artists? No further projects have been announced yet, but let’s hope so!
