Jessie Ware with her hair in a ponytail, wearing a red dress; looking into the camera and smiling as she dances, surrounded by her dancers.

So, Jessica has released the third single from her fifth studio album, That! Feels Good!. And whilst “Free Yourself” was cute and “Pearls” was fun and gave us a great vocal performance, THIS song right here is everything I wanted from “Free Yourself” and “Pearls”. THIS song right here feels like an arrival. THIS song right here feels like Jessica is the baddest of bitches.

“Begin Again” is like the pussier sibling of “Spotlight”. And it’s everything I needed from Jessica right about now.

Jessie Ware working with Stuart Price was cool. It made sense. The girls and gays have love for him. Jessie Ware had fully moved into dance and disco territory. But his work on “Free Yourself” and “Pearls” fell short for me. They felt like songs designed to be chopped and used in Always commercials. To be jingles. But they didn’t feel rich enough or like experiences in the way that Jessie’s song usually do. But “Begin Again” delivers. It’s no surprise, given that it was from the same team of co-writers Shungudzo Kuyimba and Daniel Parker, and producer James Ford – who gave us “Spotlight” and most of What’s Your Pleasure?. James created this sonic soundscape for Jessie which feels so big and rich and gives Jessie room to really play and embody the diva she has become. And this translates into how Jessie carries herself in the music video. She’s looks gorgeous. More comfortable in her body. She’s dancing more. She’s laughing more. She’s enjoying being the bad bitch that she is.

Jessie Ware sat in a black outfit with her hair down. With two male dancers posing at her feet, like she is their queen.

Despite my wig cap already being peeled back after watching the music video and hearing the song, it turns out that the version of “Begin Again” in the music video is a single edit. And Jessica has released the full version of “Begin Again” to streaming, which is over 5 minutes long and features a whole-ass middle-8 and more horns. *Wig cap falls in slow motion and hits the floor with that dramatic-ass J-drama reverb* And if this isn’t enough for you, a fan has made an extended 8 minute version of the song.
