DAMNED’s intense single “ArtrA” features remade track “Shadows”

On December 7, DAMNED dropped their latest single, “ArtrA” (アルトラ), delivering a powerful two-track release steeped in raw energy. ArtrA features the title track and its pairing, Shadows, highlighting the duality of DAMNED’s signature style: technical instrumentals, melodic layers, and blistering intensity.

ArtrA was composed by guitarist Suica, inspired by his desire to craft a piece he’d enjoy. Kou, the band’s lead guitarist and primary composer, describes ArtrA as “brimming with rage and violence, much like Suica”. Kou composed the single’s coupling track Shadows, a fresh take on shadows of a bygone era not yet seen. This track originally appeared on DAMNED’s 2023 single, DAZZLE.

The title track, ArtrA, hits with unrelenting ferocity—guttural pig squeals, sharp guitars, and blasting drum beats. Its melodic, textured bridges highlight Hitone’s dynamic vocal range, offering a refreshing contrast to the crushing breakdowns. Shadows is another fast, heavy-hitting track that demonstrates DAMNED’s skill in blending rage with melody. Both songs feature powerful breakdowns and heart-stopping screams, proving why they’ve remained staples in DAMNED’s live setlists.
