Five years after their 2019 debut, industrial rock trio NUL. unleashed their third album, “AVA”, in October 2024. AVA, derived from the word “avalanche”, reflects the record’s raw intensity and themes of aggression and destruction. The album is now available digitally on your platform of choice.
This album marks a departure from NUL.’s previous releases—2021’s TRIBRID ARCHIVE and 2022’s EVILA. “I believe this album will let you experience a new NUL. while destroying the old”, says vocalist and frontman HIZUMI. Embracing rock and metal over their industrial roots, AVA delivers a relentless, hard-hitting sound that mirrors its avalanche-inspired intensity.
For the lyrics, HIZUMI uses repeated phrases, creating a cohesive thread across the tracks. MASATO’s powerful guitar work and Toshiyuki Kishi’s inventive programming are backed by a vibrant rhythm section, with MASATO also contributing bass lines. AVA also features a diverse cast of guest performances, including drummers HIROKI (D), Yuya Ishii, and Takuma Yoshioka, alongside bassist “tmsw”.
Vocalist HIZUMI states:
Five years have passed since our formation, and I believe that the creation of the record “AVA” has further expanded our potential. Please look forward to the continued evolution of NUL.
Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, NUL. stands out with a distinctive sound shaped by the members’ illustrious musical backgrounds. After D’espairsRay disbanded in 2011, vocalist HIZUMI took a hiatus from music before inviting programmer and producer Toshiyuki Kishi (abingdon boys school) and guitarist MASATO (defspiral) to form a new band. On March 25, 2019, NUL. was born.
The band’s name, “NUL.”—meaning “zero”—embodies their vision of creating music on their own terms, free from expectations. Staying true to this ethos, the trio releases their music independently, showcasing a sound that is unmistakably “NUL.”.
