A post header, featuring the text ‘REVISED EDITION’ set vertically / rotated counterclockwise beside a CD slip cover on a green cutting mat. The slip cover is for a revised edition of Crystal Kay’s Vivid—the cover of which features Crystal Kay in a check shirt and denim booty shorts, laughing with her eyes closed and her hands on her head.

I think Vivid is a great album. I rank it as one of Crystal’s best. The only big issue I had with it, was that the sequencing wasn’t great. So, I’ve revised that and added a couple of songs which were either B-sides on Vivid singles (“Love Road”) or released shortly after the album (“My Heartbeat”), which I feel fit the album and help round it out a little more.

Special edition and deluxe re-releases aren’t common in Japan. Nowhere near the frequency at which they are in North America. But it’d be great to see it be a thing. An Expanded Edition of Vivid could absolutely be a thing that Universal entertain. Seeing as they’re dragging their feet having Crystal release something new, they may as well just re-release Crystal’s old shit. Crystal’s Universal discography ain’t shit compared to her Sony one. But Vivid deserves a second shot at success with a re-release WHICH HAS AN ACTUAL PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN BEHIND IT. It was primed for the music landscape of 2012 and it would work just as well now in 2024, in 2025 or in 2026. And with Crystal celebrating 25 years in the game, a re-release of Vivid woulda gone down nicely. But, nope. So I guess I’mma do the next best thing.
