Another Perfume album out and Yasutaka Nakata still has this issue with some songs feeling incomplete. It’s unsurprising, given all of the singles have had the same issues. But one song on Nebula Romance: Part 1 where this was really evident for me was “Cosmic Treat”.

When the Nebula Romance: Part 1 previews first hit Kawayuka’s Internet, “Cosmic Treat” was the song that made me go ‘YEP’ and got me excited. But then the album dropped, I heard the full thing and I was immediately deflated. I

t’s like Yasutaka Nakata had no idea how to best start and end the song. And the whole thing just came and went. So, I set about trying to make an extended mix with a different intro and different ending and other bits and bobs to rounded the song out a little more.

One thing I will say, is that the music video for “Cosmic Treat” does a great job distracting from any of the shortcomings of the song. And the album version being short ‘n’ sweet works in favour of the video. So that’s definitely something. The hook of the song is so damn good that it does a WHOLE lot of heavy lifting. One thing about Nakata, he gon’ give you a good hook if nothing else. On this occasion, I’mma overlook most of the hook-less songs on Cosmic Explorer and Future Pop.
