On July 31, Japanese rock band GLAY dropped their latest digital single, Kaishin no ichigeki (会心ノ一撃). The track has been chosen as the theme song for the TV anime series, Grendizer U.

Grendizer U is a fresh take on the beloved classic UFO Robot Grendizer, originally created by renowned manga artist Go Nagai. The 2024 revival brings together a powerhouse team of talent: Mitsuo Fukuda, known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, serves as chief director, while Ichiro Okouchi of CODE GEASS Lelouch of the Rebellion fame takes on the role of series composer. The characters are brought to life by character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, known for his work on Neon Genesis Evangelion.

GLAY’s guitarist HISASHI had this to say:

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to have our song featured as the theme to “Grendizer U”. The song “Kaishin no ichigeki” was born from the inspiration we felt during the online meetings before the production. Chief Director Fukuda’s bold words, “Musicians should perform as they like” and “I will leave the music to you” liberated my creativity, resulting in GLAY’s latest, unrestrained masterpiece.

Collaborating with such a distinguished team of creators is a big milestone in our history. I have been profoundly influenced by Japanese entertainment, which is why I am here today. Let’s spark an even greater reaction from here in Japan ― this is a critical hit (“Kaishin no ichigeki”) from us!
